So how do you feel about the BBC only covering a possible 6 races of F1 now in 2012 and the rest going to sky sports?

Also who is the driver to watch out for this year?

Not too happy with the deal.

Driver? Has to be Vettel again.
IMHO he's good enough to take all Schumachers records.

    That he took from Ayrton.

    :)

I have to agree with you about Vettel but I would like to see Jenson Button winning alot more races this year but then again if you havnt got the performance in the car theres not a chance!

? Senna held very few records due to his career being cut short.

Senna had most pole positions, but Prost had most wins, Fangio had most titles and I think Mansell probably had most wins per season at that point (I think).

Raikkonen!! I'm very happy to see Iceman again on the grid.

Delighted to have Raikkonen back and I hope he livens things up, Cant wait to see how Massa and Hamilton get on, really hope that Button and Webber have a great season but it will probably be dominated by Vettel :D

Hamilton gets back to the front of the grid, thereby ensuring he takes out Vettel every chance he gets allowing Button to sail through everytime and claim the championship :D

I had a dream about it :pac:

I agree with what you say about McLaren, they need to be quick from the off, same with Ferrari. If they're not on the pace for the first few races and Red Bull & Vettel manage to get on a roll, Vettel will be champion.

As for Schumi, I would love him to win, but I don't think it will happen. He should make trips to the podium. Mercedes need to be finishing in the top 3 in races this season.

Where did you hear that? They are covering ten races live (they have even announced which ten they will be showing) and the ten that they don't show live they will be showing extended highlights at 5:30pm for European races and 2:00pm for Asian/Australian races.

Setanta will be covering every race live also.

I see on the Twitter Machine that Gary Anderson has been added to the BBC lineup.

Great stuff. Will be interesting to hear him talking about the technical side of the sport.

BBC confirm their presentation team for Formula One, although we knew most of it already:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/formula_one/16516805.stm

James Allen is joining BBC Radio 5 Live as commentator.

They've also reiterated that they will be showing ten races live.

Ok this thread is about BBC & F1 for the coming season, but if you don't want to go the Sky route for the other races what are the alternatives?

I've got Eircom and can watch the Setanta live stream, but what are the streams like when a race is on? Does it break up and drop out due to the number of connections?

Also, are there satellite alternatives that are free to air?

RTL (germany) is free to air on the astra1 sat. 19.2 east. they will show all the f1 races. if you want english commentry tune into bbc radio 5 live. look at the foreign sat section for info.

This is what I would recommend. A satellite system can be bought for dirt cheap and doesn't even need to be put on a wall (in most cases) I have mine on the ground.

Just noticed on the BBC website, their calendar states what races they will have live and what will be highlights.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/race-calendar/

For race weekends not shown live, there will also be a 75 minute hughlights for qualifying.
Hopefully the BBC find some money after this 2 year contract and get full live races back.

Never realised it was only a 2 year deal with Sky?

not a hope im afraid. Sky are not goin to just let bbc renew the contract with FIA, and lose their new channel. The best we can hope for is its kept as is. If bbc want it all back, sky will head straight to the top and get what they want. They've done it with every other sport.

A bit more than 2 years I'm afraid....
Under a seven-year deal starting next season, we will be showing 10 of the races in the F1 calendar, plus the corresponding qualifying and practice sessions, live on BBC TV. We will broadcast extended highlights for the rest of the grands prix just a few hours after the chequered flag has been waved” Ben Gallop BBC Head of Formula 1
