Yesterday and today I've found a butterfly in the house, the one from yesterday found its way outside, but the one I've seen today is sitting high up after flying around. Can't imagine how they could have gotten in, so could they have been 'hibernating' inside??

Yes they are hibernating...or at least have been. Most likely Small Tortoiseshell, but there are other possibilities.

Ha - that just reminded me.

I found one on a piece of kit in the house that I was moving about a month ago.

I had to remove it or it would have been crushed in the car.

Held it in my hand for a minute and it flew off once it was warmed up. Flew about the room for a bit then settled on the curtains.

Just checked and it's still there. Looks okay too :)

    Hi,
    Advice needed.
I have a butterfly in my living room. What is the best thing for its survival, should I let him go outside or move him to the garage.

Move it gently to an unheated, watertight garage or shed and it should be fine.
