    Police Academy' remake underway
It's actually happening - reboot of 80s favourite gets a director

As if six sequels weren't enough, the cult '80s comedy 'Police Academy' is definitely set for a remake: and now it has a director attached.

Both Deadline and Entertainment Weekly have confirmed that the 'Police Academy' remake is underway, and are reporting that studio New Line have appointed Scott Zabielski to direct.

It will be Zabielski's first feature film, though he has plenty of comedy experience after working on several series' of Comedy Central's 'Tosh.O'.

Bizarrely, he also has his own personal experiences of real-life 'Police Academy'; apparently he was a City of West Hollywood reserve police officer.

Rumours of a remake first began to circulate back in 2010, when original producer Paul Maslansky told the trade press he wanted a reboot that would be "anything but another movie with a numeral next to it".

The first seven 'Police Academy' films made a combined £156 million at the box office.

The next step is casting, and a generation of fans will be watching eagerly to see who is hired to recreate the zany hijinks of the original.

But will anyone want to be the next Steve Guttenberg?

    :D

    Sounds terrigood.
Actually found a thread about similar from 2008 so not sure how much truth to it there is.

    Bad, bad, bad idea IMO.

They should be left as they are to be treasured as the comedy gold they were in the 80's.

A modern remake just won't be the same.

I don't really have an issue with remakes. No one is forcing me to watch them and they don't detract from the originals so I don't see the problem.

When I first heard about the Police Academy re-make I though it was going to be fun and zany, like that movie 'Spaceballs'.

Instead, it was dark and depressing like that movie 'Police Academy'.

It would be very hard to try pick out actors that could do the job, but the question is will they use the same characters or just relaunch it from scratch??

That's exactly the attitude to have, I don't get why people always give out stink about people remaking old classics, if its good its good, if its not its not, either way it has no effect on any of us directly, unless we CHOSE to pay to go see it!!!

Why for the love of god do these people not try to remake something that was sh1tburgers instead of classic movies.

Because the plan is to ride the success train of the original in order to sell out movie theaters

Last talented person must have left for TV or games industry, as Public Enemy once said: "Burn Hollywood, Burn"

    Ah bollix not another remake!
WOO! Only if the sound effects man is in it though

No-one can replace Michael Winslow! The new film will probably have someone like Chris Rock and make him mime the sounds!

Bobcat Goldthwait's character (Zed) will be played by Zach Galifianakis...mark my words!

who to cast, dominic cooper or colin farrell for mahoney, de niro or nicolson as lassard, cage or gibson for harris,

maybe throw gina carano for thompson, and probably mila kunis and frida pinto for the talent, wouldnt mind seeing them using big guns;):D,

most likely gonna be 1 or 2 big names cast with the rest being relative unknowns or breakthroughs,

still i dont understand why they dont just make a film like police academy and let people compare it to it later rather than build up the hype about a reboot and it then it not living up to the hype,

When they decided to remake Footloose, I said nothing.

When they decided to remake Fright Night, I stood by.

When they decided to remake The Karate Kid, I was silent.

But this, is just too much, is nothing sacred anymore?...
