My insurance is up for renewal and now my car is over 15 years many companies are refusing to give me a quote. I've maximum years of no claims and had a licence for 27 years. Never had a claim. Surely with a car thats lucky to be worth less than €1,500 and my driving record im not that big a risk! This car now needs to be NCT'd every year so there should be no safety issues. Whats your take on this and what companies have you found will cover you?

A friend of mine has a single policy on a '73 Beetle with AXA AFAIK.

Would be worth giving them a try, I had a '90 Bmw insured with Quinn last year and they had no problem once it wasn't over 20.

Are you sure its not just the online quoting systems that wont take you? Its a 96 or 97 car for gods sake. hardly ancient.

Only some insurers, not all, ring around.

I have a 20 year old CRX. I was with the AA for most of the past 5 years. Now on an AXA classic policy ( think it needs to be 20 though)

I thought Insurance Cos cannot refuse to quote, or did that condition disappear in the Celtic Big Cat era?

They can refuse to quote. And you can go through the hoops and eventually force 1 quote. Not really worth your while unless you have exhausted every possible insurer.

I don't understand. If insurance is a legal requirement, surely insurance companies should legally be forced to quote you, regardless of cost? After supplying a quote, then its up to the customer to decide whether to proceed?

The insurance ombudsman will force quotes, which will be painful.

Have you rang these companies and spoken to staff?

Ended up with a quote from 123.ie fully comp for €325 so am probably going to for that. Its a pity we don't have the insurance comparison sites like they have in the UK and its all done for you when you put in the one set of details!!!

Try FBD, they own nonsense but have different preferences and prices for some reason. My 15 year old car is with FBD.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
