Which BMX

Hi Guys,

This is my first time posting on Boards so please be kind . I'm looking into buying a BMX for my son. He is 9 years old and tall for his age. I'm thinking of spending around the 250 Euro. I will spend a little more if needed. So far I have picked out the following bikes.

The felt bike in the shop is simular to option 3 above. It's going for 250Euro. Does not have a 3 piece crank (). I can't see a felt for 250 euro on there web site so I presume it's one of the 299euro bikes on sale.

I haven't a clue what i'm getting into here so all help welcome. I just know that all of his mates have BMX's and they can all spin there handlebars, do jumps etc.

All other suggestions welcome.

I'm just posting here to try and find out if one of the 3 bikes that i posted stands out.

I don't know much about freestyle BMX but I'd definitely buy from Eurocycles rather than Halfords.

Eurocycles on the Long mile road will be your best place to go for a good deal and advice.
If you want something that will take the knocks then €300 is your starting point price for a BMX.

edit: Oh, and go for the Felt!

The Diamondback and the Halford bikes have the spinny handlebars thingy. Of the two I'd go for the Diamondback.

You sure you don't hant to let him choose! There might be an inconsequential fandangled thingymabob on one of the bike his friends have that he'd really like on his.

I think I'll head down to Eurocycles and look at the options there.

@ tenzor.. I'll check the felt again. i think it's reduced from 299 to 250

@ hungrycol.. you are probably right. I'll bring the young lad down too!

Jeez, don't bring him, never give kids a choice (I'm half serious)

I'd recommend the Felt. Don't bother getting anything with a gyro. They're a bit of pain tbh and most don't run them any more. If he decides he doesn't want it later it'll take some work to remove completely as there's usually a part of it welded to the head tube. The gyro back brakes are usually a little weaker too. I'd guarantee the Felt would be lighter too.

just to let you know that my son picked out a Kink Launch BMX 2011 (Silver) . None of the ones I picked out for him took his fancy . We got it for a good price and he's happy with it. Thanks again for all your help.
