My garden fences were all blown down and destroyed during the recent bad weather and I would now like to build a wall to replace them.

Could anyone advise on the approx. cost of bulding a 6ft high, 70 ft long block wall please. :)

I'll presume you are using standard 4 inch blocks. Your wall is 38.5 sq m so you going to need 385 blocks + 70 more for pillars Blocks were 55 cent each last time I got them. Cement is €4.50 (18 bags). Labour is 70 cent a block approx.

    455 x .55 = 250.25
    18 x 4.50 = 81.00
    455 x .70 = 318.50

Thats €650 plus sand (not sure about) Someone might also give ya a price on plastering and capping

I would get a builder to quote the lot

You're forgetting the foundations....probably the most expensive part of the build.

It depends on site conditions eg. how much spoil has to be carted away, what depth the foundations have to go, access for machinery etc.
Will you require the contractor to dispose of the old fence & posts etc.
I'd reckon about 3 or 3.5m3 concrete should suffice at around €100 per m3 (small load price).
Really you should hire a contractor to complete the whole job and be done with it.
I'm in Skerries, north county Dublin so if your around that area I could take a look for you, if not you could try Tradesmen.ie and you will get 4 quotes for your job and most tradesmen on there will have some references from other clients.
I get a few jobs from there myself.
    Hope this helps,
    Gerryo777.

I have a small decorative wall to be built at rear of home, I need about 500 4 inch blocks and enough sand/cement to do the job. What should I be paying for the materials? Thanks all.

Should have added that I have the foundation in. got about 5M of concrete, €300. Not too bad a price.
