Hi OP it sounds like you re beating yourself up a bit of course to an extent those of us employed should feel grateful but not no matter. It s hard for anyone to give advice without knowing more details, i.e. Is it so bad that leaving is your only real option, do you like the job, are there are others available, would the bullying be clear to other people or is it more subtle? Of course it's horrible to let a bully win but sometimes if the person is senior enough you don't have a choice.

If you re off today maybe consider going for counselling and go for a long walk and treat youtself to some nice food.

    Hey OP,

It's really hard to give you advice without more details. Like does your boss openly bully you? Do they pass remarks, name call etc? Is it more of a "slagging" that's gotton out of hand? Are they gruff in character? Could you possibly arrange a meeting with your boss and explain that what they're doing is affecting your health? Do you have a HR department that you can approach for support? So yeah more details would help us to advise you.

    Best of luck.

Also the "be grateful to have any job" is total bull****, what use is the job if you're ill from stress?

I should be grateful to even have a job.......

    Nonsense :)

You applied and you were the best candidate at the time. You are responsible for your job and career and goals but it's not your fault what's happening to others.

You're not lucky to have a job, they are lucky to have you :)

Mind what you're reading and listening to OP. Joe Duffy show would have you depressed many days with the screeching and misery porn.
And stop reading those IBEC press releases ;)

Regarding the stress, go to the GP, this is a fairly common issue for many and they can talk it through with you. Or refer you somewhere

There are a few things as regards stress.

Your company should have a risk assessment which essentially details the hazards in the job and in this should be stress. It should outline how it is to be dealt with and what can be done about it.

Legally the HSA has a code of practice which means that companies are required to have an anti bullying policy outlining the steps involved if you have a grievance. Check out their website on www.hsa.ie. If you are looking for intervention in the issue contact the LRC (www.lrc.ie) who provide intervention and can refer you to a rights officer.

Finally check out the anti bullying research and resource centre in Trinity., (http://www.abc.tcd.ie/feedback.html)

Hope it all sorts itself out :)
