Hi everyone. I am just looking for any opinions on the 6-8 month braces that are widely offered at the moment. I have heard that you have to wear a retainer for the rest of your days with these. Can anyone give me feedback that has had the procedure done only. I know that 2-3 year braces are the preferred route but really don't think I could face that. You can also pm me with any info.

    cheers

    Hi there

you cannot get a definite opinion online as I am sure you know. It all depends on how severe your problem is and without an examination nobody can tell you what type of treatment would suit you. It might take 6 months or it may be 2 years

look at the many threads on 6 month braces. They are the same as any other brace but marketed a lot more by non specialists. They only left on for 6 months so are only suitable for mild problems.

Go to an orthodontist www.orthodontics.ie and best of luck

I can't really comment on them as I don't know enough. But really 2 years with braces flies by you are self concious at first but you get in to a routine and after a while you forget you have them on.
You usually wear a retainer for the 3rd year and only at night but to be honest well I've found anyway that 2 yrs with braces and one with a retainer is easier.
I am now almost done just have one last appointment and it can't come soon enough because although the braces were grand they are just left in and you just make sure you clean around them properly but the retainer is a bigger pain so will be glad to be rid of them, having a retainer for the rest of my days is something I couldn't face. You end up just relaxing or about to nod off and suddenly remember fek I've forgotten them and you have to get up and go get the retainers. It's ok for a year but after that you do start to get a bit fed up with them.
