Environmental Masters

    Hi,
I am heading into the final semester of structural engineering. I have the next few weeks off and I am sitting down and seriously thinking about what to do with myself when I graduate in May.

Firstly, I know that I do not want to work as a structural engineer. By chance, I was assigned a final year project that is leaning towards the environmental engineering side (modelling rivers and analysing flow). My lecturer recommended that I sit in some of the guest lecturers from the OPW and Arup flood department to supplement my learning. I must say that I have become very interested in the topic, more so than pursuing a career of that of my undergraduate degree.

I am thinking of completing an environmental masters and this is where your help would be great. I have currently only looked at two places. The first is CIT. I know that I like this course, but I was hoping maybe to get out of Ireland for a while, and study abroad.

The second is the TUM (Technical University of Munich). There is a two year environmental masters there that is completed through English. I have looked at the modules and they are something that I would be very interested in. It should be noted that I have spent two summers there and I have friends and am familiar with the place.

So apart from these two places, can anyone suggest from experience a great university to investigate? Cost is an issue, as some are very expensive. The advantage of CIT is that although the costs are increasing, my living experiences will be lower. At the same time, another year there might just kill me!

Or am I swinging in the right direction with these two courses?

    Thanks,
    A slightly confused 4th year :o

Have you tried Cranfield University in the uk? They have a huge selection or environmental courses and are realy well respected by employers
http://www.cranfield.ac.uk/sas/postgraduatestudy/taughtcourses/page10283.html If you apply this early in the year there's a good chance of getting funding too (even for taught courses).
