Just asking on behalf of someone thinking of buying one. He is a farmer and looking to get a basic jeep without the frills. Anyone have any experience with a LD ? Any problems with them ?

A friend of mine has a 07 one of these.

As you said, without the frills is the exact way I would describe it. They are about 120bhp as far as I know. I think the design has been more or less the same for 20 years, just updating the engine. It feels very "clunky" and its fairly noisey and slow. I personally wouldn't buy one but maybe they would be perfect for a farmer as a work vehicle. The 07 I know of has not given any bother but it is not worked hard either. Not aware of any common problems but they are a fairly simple design so can't be much to go wrong!

I'd probably look at a landcruiser.

The basic shape hasn't changed since 1958, the coil sprung 90/110 has been around since 1983/84. Cramped cabin, It's a vehicle you either love or hate, I drive one everyday and wouldn't have anything else :D

2007 could be a Td5, very reliable engine with plenty of go or a 2.4Tdci (transit engine) with a 6 speed box and a heater that works!

Huge amount of support (the Defender Thread is the longest on the 4x4 forum) and cheap spares but you won't see a single one in the local mart, it's only Land Cruisers.
