"Live Messenger signed into X places"

Twice now in the last 24 hours, Windows Live Messenger (or "MSN", as I still call it) has told me "Live Messenger is signed into 3 places". It's a standard notification for when I'm signed in on my laptop, then sign in on my phone.

But usually, it just says 2 places (immediately as I sign in on my phone). Should I be worried that someone, somewhere, is also signing in on my account, making the "3 places"?

The first time I saw it yesterday, I immediately checked the status bar that showed where I was signed in. It only showed 2 places. Just to be safe, I changed my password anyway.

But now, once again, I just got the "signed into 3 places" notification.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a bug? Should I be worried at all?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Your email (hotmail) might also have messenger open in the sidebar to the left. That counts too...

I did change it after the first time. Then it happened again. Which is why I came here to ask. I'm pretty sure it wasn't hacked, so wondering about alternatives.

I'll keep that in mind. I don't think I had my hotmail open either time (I rarely use it), but I'll try a few tests to see if I can replicate it that way.

    Cheers.

I get that message quite a lot as well...

I just usually click on the button to sign out,,but scroll down, and select the option "Sign out from messenger on the web".

That gets rid of the extra signed in messages.

Sadly though,,it happens quite a lot,,but I don't know why...I think it may have something to do with using both messenger, and windows live mail..

Only started happening since I got the current version of mesenger. Never happened with the ones before that.

When it happens you, does it say there are more accounts than you actually have open?

For example, if you have Windows Live open on your PC, along with messenger on your phone, is it repeatedly saying there are 2 signed in, or more? I used to have a problem like that, but that was fine because I could account for the 2 things... but now it's saying 3... and there is literally nothing that could be making a 3rd coming from me. - I treble-checked to make sure it wasn't coming from me signing into my hotmail account - it's definitely not that.

Hopefully, it's just a bug that'll be swept out next update.

    Hi carlcon..

Sometimes when I use the laptop,,and I'm still signed into the same account on the pc,,it does say "You are now signed in at 2 different places"...Or something like that...

But yes...I do get signed in at 3 places,,when I know I'm not signed in anywhere else.

Sometime the notice just pops up as I'm using the pc,,knowing I'm not signed in anywhere else.

As you say,,hopefully just a bug that can be fixed.
