    Hey all,

Has anyone bought a car from Jim Rock motors in Loughlinstown? If so, how did you find the service and the car?

Any thoughts / experiences appreciated :)

Never bought anything from him, but I did sell him a car that I had up on Donedeal. Seemes like a top guy IMHO, he didn't mess me around, and when he said he wanted to buy it, he meant it. I'd the money within a day and he organised collection. Got a good feeling from talking to him on the phone - especially when he mentioned that he's not your ordinary dealer who just buys and sells and has no interest in cars, he's got a nice car collection himself. Always a good sign!

I think he's punching above his weight with some of his stock! :pac::cool::P

I bought a car of him a few years ago, took a large deposit of me and the car would be VRT'd within a week. Jim then dissapeared on holidays and I was left dealing with his useless colleagues. Took over a month for the car to be VRT'd. Refused to give the deposit back 3 weeks later. Nevertheless, the car in the end was genuine and I never had any problems with it. Jim is an ok bloke to deal with but the young guy that works for him (chubby-ish) is an awful salesman and very rude.

In other words, you should be fine :-) just don't pay out large deposits like I did. Good luck!

TBH that post was half joking, whole in earnest. As said above he's a motor enthusiast himself so there's always a bit of stock that he's bought because he likes it as opposed to what will sell. Are you gonna buy a Ferrari or Corvette from a dealership that is literally on the side of the road with no showroom?

That said he has a decent enough reputation in the trade and talks no bull AFAIK.

My father is in the car trade all his life and he has no good words to say about it him, tough in the ring and in his business dealings apparently.

I only met the man once, and wasn't particularly impressed. Not that it matters, as I got the distinct impression that he liked himself enough for the both of us. FWIW, I used to drive past the place quite regularly, and Jim seemed to have at best a passing regard for the VRT laws.

I also have never bought anything from him but back in 2005 I rang him about a 1999 rover 618 he had for sale for €3500 iirc it was, he had just sold it but was happy to have a natter with me on the phone, told me he had no bother at all selling it and that they make very decent money and that he wouldn't have moved much off his asking price for me.

I was interested in picking his brains as Green Isle Motors had one for sale too for €2950, anyway as Owen said he seemed a very decent, helpful chap which is always a plus.

Just about the liking himself bit, as a boxer you have to have that attitude, wouldn't last in the ring without it, as said I've never met him and he came across very well on the phone, admittedly he must have had a spare few mins when I rang him.

Wasn't there a pic on here a year or so back of one of his cars being lifted by customs?

True, and to be fair he did and said absolutely nothing that I could criticize. He just set my radar off, that's all.;)

He is a nice man actually. He was a customer of mine one time when I was in sales. He always had good straight cars for sale.

I remember when he transferred that plate to ever car he fancied driving without having to pay motor tax! Oh, he still does that actually.
