unfunctioning dashboard lights

    can anyone pls help?? my volkswagon passat 2003 dashboard lights keep
    going on and off (mostly off). sometimes they can go out for a few days and other times they might not work for weeks. same happens with my central locking but not worried about it as much.
    would be grateful for feedback on this, has anyone else had this problem?

    Sounds more like a loose connection in the loom possibly a earth strap leaking the two systems together are you any good at reading wiring diagrams

    Which lights are going? The instrument warning lights or the dashboard illumination? IIRC the dashboard illumination is controlled by the CCM on the Passat and those are known to give trouble - the controller is mounted on the floor of the car and water can leak in and wet it causing problems.

    to swhyte, thx for your reply, i wouldnt be that good at reading diagrams, is the loom the thing on the door between the door and body of car, is there any other places i should look at?

    to chimaera, thx for your reply, its the dash illumination lights that keep going out, sometimes for a week at a time. you mentioned ccm on the passat, where is that located and could i look at it myself? do you know of any other problems it could be,
    really appreciate the help so far, thx in advance.
