I've been out of work a year, I am qualified in a certian area, I would love to hear stories from people who have been out of work for a lenght of time and have managed to get back into work.

    Does it happen?

ah yeah - of course it does.

    keep the faith.

I'm still clinging on to one or two one-day a week jobs, currently overhauling my CV before I start firing them out again!

stay positive and keep changing tack - also network, network, network as someone told me on here the other day! bring people out for coffee, volunteer, internships, etc.etc.

    Yup.

I'm an IT analyst, back working as one in a multi-national 2.5 years after I left 'cos their project budgets were cut back. What changed - their budget were released again.

Remember - it's not all about you, it's the economy.

Chin up, find ways to keep your skills alive (volunteer work, hobby projects etc) in the meantime.

Got a contract role after 2.5 years out. Sadly, it ended and I wasn't kept on.

Still looking after four months out, but remain hopeful...

It happens, so dont give up.

I was out of work for a year & starting to really get down about the whole thing, but through old work contacts managed to land a contract position for 6 months & from that got a permanent position in another firm 4 months ago, i work in the Architectural industry which has been decimated in the recession so if theres still opportunities there (albeit on massively reduced salaries) i'm sure there are in other industries also, the hard part is finding them, so dont give up, keep yourself out there & hopefully something will turn up.

Thanks so much guys! I have an interview in an hour, I'm so nervous, do you know how it's a vicious cycle - you kind of lose confidence after being out of work for so long, but doing my best to stay calm and think positive thoughts!

    Thanks for the positive stories!

Yeah I was out of work for 2 years before getting a job again.

    You'll get there eventually .

Just keep an eye in case depression starts kicking in - the best advice is to have a schedule and do "something" each day.
