    Wondered if anyone here may know if this change proposed in the budget had been confirmed ?

    increasing the minimum stocking density requirement, from 0.15 livestock units per hectare to 0.30 livestock units per hectare;
    doubling the minimum retention period from three to six months;

    does that now mean that in theory there has being a quadrupling of the LU needed to draw disadvantaged area payments (doubling of units and doubling retention period). I presume it has gotten approval. I would be interested in hiring out a few cattle for a small sum if your interested :D:D, on saying that - it could be a rather nifty business plan:D:D

    Seems to be on the cards (no harm either) but its noted that "these changes are not yet confirmed and their potential impact is still being considered. Furthermore, given that the Disadvantaged Areas Scheme is part of the wider Rural Development Programme 2007/2013, it will be necessary to obtain Commission for any changes beforehand."

    :) good man. there'll surely be some local land that will come up for rent.

    From what I see, the stocking rate says but the retention of stock has been set to a min of 6 months. Horse's removed. This should prevent those claiming for hillside farming. Happy enough that the smaller farmer is allowed to continue.
