Quality problem converting vhs to dvd

I have connected my VCR to my DVD recorder using a scart lead. Overall the quality of picture and sound transfers well, except for one irritating interference. There is something like a faint vertical line flashing through the screen from left to right. Its like a ghost in the background its so faint but for the sharp eye its quite noticeable and can upset viewing. I considered connecting my VCR using AV cables instead of scart but it appears my SONY VCR was only crafted to transfer sound using this feature as no picture transfers (there is no yellow socket on the vcr) Does anybody know some way to combat this problem? Is there a better type of scart lead maybe? Thank you.

You could always go the old school route and try some rf leads
    http://www.dastv.co.uk/shop/rf-leads/15M-RF-Lead-Male-To-Female-Black.php
    if your recorder/vcr has them.

Mind you, have your tried hooking up your VCR to your tv through scart, just to make sure the ghosting isn't actually on the tape itself rather than what you suspect to be a scart/connection issue?

I'm afraid, save for buying a new scart lead (for double checking, you can get ridiculously expensive ones, but for the most part, they're all the same really) or going the rf route, you might be out of luck here. :o

Unfortunately, I don't think our ole VHS tapes are standing the test of time. :(

    hi there norbert64,

i would recommend getting the tesco combi priced at around 300 euro.
it has combined hard drive, vhs and DVD in 1 package.

not all scart cables are the same.
any good electronics shop like Peats , maplins can give you A GOOD cable that is sturdy. you know when you have a cheap lidl-like scart cable in your hands.

you have another option, i do vhs to dvd transfer all the time using a combi mentioned above, I could do them them for you at a verygood price.

    hope this helps

    J.

hehe, I'm not sure the OP would fancy forking out that kind of money for wholly un-necessary equipment, much less pay someone else for the pleasure.

Especially when we could be talking about a VHS tape problem rather than a connection problem.

Mind you, I will grant you one thing. There are differences in certain scart leads. It mainly has to with screening though.
