Hi all, I am wondering is there a sat box on the market that will work like a Sky + HD but allow you to create your own EPG. What I want is a box that will keep my sky card alive, allow me to record but also allow me to tune in channels like the ITV’s and channel 5 and put all the channels in the order that I want.

The vu+ duo will do this. See the huge thread over in the Foreign Satellite section.

If you have expired sky Sub then
A "Freesat HD" PVR if you only want UK TV. No retuning, full access to streams etc. It will do ITV and C5

If you have a Sky sub best to stick with Sky HD box. A Vu+ duo could stop working with Sky cards tonight and it breaches your Sky T&C.

The Vu+ duo is only a better solution if you want non-UK too, or non-Sky PayTV.

Thanks guys. What it is I’m living in London and have ROI sky sub but would also like PVR functions on the UK channels that aren’t on the Irish EPG. I have had a look at getting a Freeview or a Freesat box to run along side my sky box to do this. But it would be handier to have all the UK channels on the one box.

Just out of interest Watty, how would Sky go about stopping a card working in a non-sky box do you think? As I understand it, they would have to replace the current stock of boxes with something that hard-wires the card to the box?

No, they would not have to replace a single Sky box.

Potentially they could kill cards that are not in a Sky box and may do so.

They can also replace the cards if needed and have done so.

So you are already on thin ice. Get a Freesat box. Or "move" to Northern Ireland. N.I. Sub loses TV3 which is no great loss as the N.I. Sub has all the ITVs on the EPG. N.I. Sub has RTE

Yes but I thought the problem is telling if the card is in another box? Without some sort of hard-wired encryption then it's just too easy to fake everything else with software?
