The Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, has its best chance of being seen in more than a decade because of a peak in the sun's activity.

    So it's a form of entertainment & free apparently.
I reckon €8 per head or €20 a family, waiver for those in Cork & Kerry.
No waiver for the blind unfortunately cause disability allowances cannot be cross checked against housing records.
Make payments here on or before the date:

    Well, let's see. I'm Irish.

Us Irish are idiots who don't stick up for themselves and as an Irish person I feel our reputation is that we enjoy being double fisted so do you know which website I can register on to pay this new "Northern Lights" tax please.

I assume the lower class & upper class don't have to pay as usual
, would that be correct ??

So that's you walking around shouting at the sky pointing a remote at it.

"Two hundred channels and nothing but clouds."

I'd say you're safe enough on that score.

Doubt they'll queuing up to witness the Northern Lights anyway.
Or reading this thread for that matter.

I have seen 3 disaster movies which all have the events that lead on to the destruction of the planet start with the Aurora Borealis.

We're done for, done diddly done for.

    I blame those, damn Mayans.

Right, I'm going to paste in the full article which mentions nothing about taxing the air\sky\Aurora Borealis as the OP has made some vague link to our idiotic government that they can get away with taxing anything.
One of the world's most famous and stunning solar phenomena is eagerly expected over Irish skies in the coming weeks, stargazers have said.

The Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, has its best chance of being seen in more than a decade because of a peak in the sun's activity.

The celestial light show appears as ghostly, wispy rays of colours dancing across the night sky.

Brendan Alexander, an astronomer in Co Donegal, said the further north and away from city lights people are, the better chance they have of seeing the dream-like spectacular.

"It's definitely worth seeking out," he said. "It's an event that -- especially on these shores -- is so rare.

"When you are watching the display, it's very eerie, almost alien. It's like nothing you have seen before," he added.

The sun has a "heartbeat" every 11 years or so -- known as the solar cycle -- and when it erupts charged particles blast into space and are sucked into the North Pole.

These explosions react with the earth's atmosphere, sparking great swathes of coloured light.

The long, clear darkness of winter is among the most likely times to see it and astronomers believe the sun will hit the peak of its cycle again in the coming year.

Between now and the equinox in March is being tipped as the best opportunity in Ireland for more than ten years.

When he last saw it, Donegal-based photographer Mark Nolan captured the phenomenon over Malin Head -- Ireland's most northerly point -- from Pollan Beach in Ballyliffin.

"The excitement I felt when I arrived on the beach and saw the photos on the camera display cannot be described," said the father of three.

I'd pay a maximum of a fiver, but only if I could see the Aurora Australis from Kerry.

The Aurora Borealis tax, I suppose like the vast silent majority I will pay it.

I always wanted to see this, it was awfully nice of the Nordic folks for sharing this. Ireland should return the favour and give them 12 points in the Eurovision.

It might cause interference but I am not sure about that.
