Can anyone recommend good smartphone GPS skiing apps?
The kind of thing I'm looking for that will map your skiing and provide max speed, distance traveled etc stats, and will run quietly in the background without eating up battery.

This one is supposed to be good (it'll differentiate when you are on a lift and when you are skiing):

I used that last year and it was grand, got board of it quite quickly though and I wouldn't trust the top speed reading, seemed to be way off more often then not. Total distance was cool to see and time on piste verus time on lifts.

If you google GPS speed and skiing it seems you cant trust the speed figures.

How did Skitracks effect your battery after almost 7 hours use?

There is an app called Skiline, you can enter your European ski lift pass number and it will track which lift you've been on and can then figure out your total distance skied, no GPS required.

Killed it a bit but if you turn down everything else on your phone its not too bad. I tracked my self in the Gaelforce race last year with an iphone. GPS and app going for 6 hours on an iPhone 4 and I had about 40% battery left.

Its a fitness tool so from that perspective yes but from a detailed tracking of ski stats no here's a run tracked by it:

Oh, I use the app for tracking my running (if you can call it running), so I'm familiar with the app.
Not sure it looks great for ski tracking. How accurate do you think the altitude is?

Id say its pretty good, speed seems to be the real question mark.

Ski tracks has alot more stats, but as I said once the novelty wore off I just wasn't bothered with using either of them. Prob give it another go this year and see what export options Ski tracks has.
