So training bike/winter rig. Only entry level wheelsets need apply. So which would be the one people go for?

Fulcrum Racing 7 + Conti Ultra Sports €199. or.
    Mavic Aksium + Gatorskins €209.

Any other better deals anyone knows about in that bracket?

Askiums for sure! Assuming the Gatorskins are included that sounds like a good deal!

Although I'm a Fulcrum fan I'd say the Aksium. Have them on my commuter bike and they feel more lively coming from previous Open Pro's.

Fulcrums, because I don't like Gatorskins.

I love 'em. Gives me just the right amount of drift to suit my maverick riding style :D

I previously had the Conti Ultra Race tyres and switched to Gatorskins because I was tired of repairing punctures. The grip on the Gatorskins is not a patch on the Utra Race tyres and I'm seriously considering replacing the Gatorskins and keeping them for the summer. I've had a few lock ups under braking and one fall on an icy patch on a straight bit of road, no sideways loading was involved but the front tyre still just went out from under me.

I don't know if you've seen this thread. You should perhaps have a read before deciding on the Mavics.

Yep, I'd go back to Fulcrums for training if I had the chance. A pair of Fulcrum 5's were the best pair of wheels I've owned. Can't imagine the Fulcrum 7 to be much different other than weight.

How about Shimano RS30s in Ribble for £129

At the minute the fulcrum is leading the race. Gman, don't know a lot about shimano wheels. Where do they stand to their similarly priced mavic or fulcrums?
