Yes you can clean it with a crab spray and a cloth and tooth brush remove all the heavy carbon with the cloth.the clean with more carb spray and the tooth brush.the problem your going to run into on that then is the throttle body is electrical and needs to be reset afterwards.you need some diagnostics to do that otherwise your throttle body won't reset back fully closed as it will have the setting of when it was all choked up(slightly open)

so the car doesn't reset it's tba by itself or by turing the ingnition key without starting the car for 15 minutes ?

No it won't reset it by doing that. The only way to do an instant reset is via diagnostics. It will eventually adapt itself over time after cleaning but the best way to do it properly.

i see , i don't have the diagnostics tools so i have no other options but to take it to my mechanic .

I just called him he will charge me 30$ for cleaning and reset , i thought it would be more expensive that's why i wanted to diy , but 30$ is not bad i guess .

    Thanks.

30e is good it only takes two mins on diagnostics to reset it.most places charge for diagnostics although we don't but ur getting it cleaned also and it reset so u can't go wrong with 30e

    thanks .

What about the best spark plugs for an a6 ? Is it bosch platinum +4 or bosch 7406 or iridium ?

NGK would be my first choice.

i cleaned the tb , the car has a better idle now , but i can still feel a slight lack of power , the car doesn't feel perky .

I was reading somewhere that i need to clean the mass air flow sensor ?

I asked my mechanic he said NO DON'T touch it , maf sensors aren't supposed to be cleaned !!!!!!!

I read a diy about how to test if the maf sensor needs cleaning , they said disconnect the maf wires and drive the car , if it feels perky then i should clean it !

So what do u think ?

Cleaning it won't achieve anything I've tried cleaning dozens and don't bother now we just order a new one as cleaning never works.u need to have that car on live data and read what the air flow is reading.and the compare to what it should be.but being honest.maybe u should just ask someone for a bit of help and a dig out ask them to through the disgnostics on it.also u say u cleaned the throttle body did u reset it on the diagnostics like we advised you.

yes the mechanic did the reset , he showed me the idle range, it's at 800 at 50 c temperature , it went down to 700 at 85c .

Are u sure it's not a bad coolent temp sensor so

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 181 ✭✭Javelin77

i changed the temperature sensor as well , do u think the idle should be 800 at any temperature ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 419 ✭✭swhyte027

    Yes it should

swhyte027 , i've disconnected the oxygen sensors relay , it has 4 plugs right ? 3 the passanger side and 1 under the coolant reservoir?

Because i've removed 1 catalytic converter . It was rattling so much .

So now i still have 1 catalytic converter .

So is it ok to drive the car with the O2 sensors disconnected ?

Ps : it's not illegal to remove the catalytic converters here in lebanon .

    Thanks.

Why u leave them disconnected the engine ecu is going to take up a different setting now I wouldnt do that being honest u should connect them seriously

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 181 ✭✭Javelin77

but i removed the catalytic converter , so wouldn't that give wrong readings to the car's computer if i still have the sensors connected ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 419 ✭✭swhyte027

Yes and with them disconnected now the car is going to take up a different setting and I would imagine is going to run alot worse now.it leave them in the exhaust and the sensor connected now being honest.ur gona need a cat pal to be honest.but trust me leave the sensor in the exhaust and reconnect it,it will run worse with it disconnected seriously listen to us

i will reconnect them , but to be honest the car felt better when i disconnected them , i felt more power .

    Thanks .

Yes more power = more juice my friend.you can do that if u wish I told you u could and the car could take up a average setting.id say u felt more power as u have the blocked cat removed.

swhyte027 why is my car running lean ?

    I don't have fault codes at all , i have a check engine cos i don't have a cat converter ?

I cleaned the throttle body , new air filter , new fuel filter , new spark cables .

I removed the drivers side catalytic converter and i can't find a new one .

When the car is not warm it feels perky , i could feel the power but once it's at 85 90 degree it goes a bit lean .

So what do u think ? Could it be the front oxygen sensor?

Your car is running lean as u don't have the oxygen sensor connected and the cat is wrong so it's giving all the wrong readings hence why the car is running lean.you can't just remove a cat and leave a sensor disconnected and expect the car to run like it should.if that was the case the manifacture wouldn't have the sensor or cat there in the first place.my advice is get a cat for it.be it a second hand one or a after market one fit it and reconnect everything up.seriously tho if u don't understand it u shouldn't be messing at it

if i couldn't find a used audi cat converter , is it ok if i put a used bmw's or mercedes' ?

My o2 sensors are on the tube not on the cat , so if i found any other cats or universal cats i could weald it , but will it do the job?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 181 ✭✭Javelin77

btw i'm not the one who will do the wealding , i'll take it to a pro exhaust wealder they'll do it.

man one last question , can i disable the rear oxygen sensor? In case i didn't find a cat converter .

Is it safe to drive with a disabled rear sensor?

To answer all your questions no no no and no.seriously get a spurious cat for your car.not a BMW or merc one no one that fits and u can't disable the sensor the car will run wrong.listen to what I said what ur asking makes no sense u need a mechainc Notting else simple
