Weird issues popping up???

    Hi Guys,

    I have an Asus G73s gaming laptop woith the following specs;

    Intel Core i7-2630QM 2.0 Ghz
    8gb RAM
Windows 7 home or whatever the basic one is (not starter)

I don't know exactly when it started to happen, maybe 2-3 days ago but a few weird things have started to happen.

Firstly I noticed when playing BF3 and MW3 that the laptop seemd to slow down alot and the framerate would drop, like if the charger was unplugged, anyway I checked the charger and the setting, was plugged in and set to gaming performance.

Then I noticed that after a start up windows explorer would crash and give some APPCRASH error, the first time this happened I clicked on the send report and restart type option, this did something weird as my themes and screensaver got all messed up after this, went back to factory setting.

Then the keyboard backlighting and most of the fn+F# commands stopped working, repairing ATK Package solved this for now.

I tried running the game ATP Reloaded through Steam and as it's first time running it does the whole install rigmarole, after this I press start on the launcher and it gives an error saying the ATP registry files could not be written, then a window pops up from windows troubleshoot saying that a windows component is not installed that is needed and it mentions flash.ocx
So I press search online and it says my flash player needs to be updated, which I do but still the same troubleshooting window comes up every time I try run the program.

The fact that games are running slower (most noticable in Skyrim actually) and the fact that ATP installer mentioned registry has me worried!!

Oh and I hadn't played Skyrim in about 6 weeks, went to play it the other day and I had no save file, so I had to start from scratch:eek:.

Only things which come to mind as changing around this time are the fact that I restored everything in my recycle bin and I spent a bit of time messing with drivers and such trying to set up and xbox controller with a wireless receiver, which I got to work with F1 2011 without any framerate drop.

I did travel with the laptop last Monday in a suitcase (checked bag) but I had a fairly solid sleeve around it and made sure to pack it in the middle of all my clothes.

I don't have a restore CD with me in Belgium and the Laptop was bought in Holland so I'm not taking into that shop.

Hope I gave enough info for someone to have an idea of what this is, from my very limited knowledge I am very worried about the mentioning of registry in an error context!

    Thanks in advance

    Sounds virusy.

And with all the "missing component" stuff I'd skip right to reinstalling Windows.

There should be a reinstall partition on the HDD, if you keep pressing F8 or F2 on startup you'll get the option. If you go for this option backup anything you will need later beforehand.

Or if you don't want to do that you could try a system restore back to a week ago or whenever when the machine was running OK.

Or run whatever your antivirus is and
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free and see what you get.

I have Avst free version and that isn't picking anything up, ditto with win defender?

Another thing I just noticed as I have a work laptop with me, the LAN isn't working either, I thought it was the LAN but it's working fine on my work laptop.

A question about doing a clean install, I have office 2010 which I got through work but downloaded digitally, had to pay a 10er for it. Is it easy to reinstall and get a key off microsoft or something?

Used the link above and ran a full scan (well, the best the free version will give me) and it found a Trojan and deleted it, fingers crossed it's sorted for now, the LAN is working now too

Uninstall the two of them and install MSE or Avira.
