    Seating the bead, common enough trick.
    How else can you get air into it without the bead being seated?
    They obviously have an onboard compressor to inflate the tyre but just couldn't seat the bead.

    Saw it on a Top Gear program from Iceland years ago, they use lighter fluid.

    No. They run the tyres at very low pressures to spread the weight on snow or mud but that makes it easy to peel them off the rim. You can use beadlockers to stop it happening.

    They used lighter fuel in Iceland as I don't think WD40 would even come out the can at -20!

    Many vehicles in those conditions have on board compressors (not your silly little Halfords job either) and air tanks to re-inflate the tyres when back on the road.

    Either (starting fluid) works the best. A lot of guys make custom tube bumpers that are sealed and act as tanks for on board air compressors. Also a lot of really serious off roaders have engine driven welder/generators.
