    Background
My current set up is a cheap as chips Beko 27" working off an attic UHF aerial getting resonable reception (incl TV3 & TG4) in West Clare. Yes, happy enough with just the 4 channels! I'll be turning the sod for a new house this spring so I'll be transferring any purchases I make to the new house (in 2 or 3 years time) and allowing for upgrading in the future.

    What I'm considering getting
So I have to get Saorview and this got me doing research and I've hit upon the very open secret of Freesat. After a few hours/ nights research what I've come up with is this - an all in package that includes:
    • dish
    • combi box (ferguson 120)
    • cable
Is there anything missing that will prevent me from getting up and running with Saorview & Freesat? Any other parts I'd need to get?

What I'm thinking for the future
Extra upgrades/ functionality I'll be looking for:
    • A NAS harddrive for storing our music collection (currently 25GB). Currently its on the laptop and streaming wirelessly to a squeezebox radio which Santa brought for the OH;)
    • Using this NAS hardrive/server for movies (is it possible to buy and download movies over the internet? I assume it is)
    • Upgrade TV when ever the Beko gives up, or with the new house maybe get a second TV
What kind of TV should I be thinking of? Am I on the right track with what I'm thinking? Is there glaringly obvious stuff I'm missing?!!! :D

By the time you have moved into your new house, the digital landscape will have undergone an almighty heave. It is very likely that all tvs on sale here will be Saorview approved. Saorsat will be up and running for a couple of years by then. It is very likely that the Ferguson Ariva 120 Combo will be replaced by something that will have all the bells and whistles that you could wish for as regards reception, recording, dual tuner etc., etc. Your best and cheapest option would be as you outlined in your post. I have the Ferguson and it fulfills my needs perfectly.
