Looking to upgrade my Toshiba R630. Thinking about the R830 but looking for more ideas. Want something with at least a 500GB HD, over 4GB RAM at least an i5. Possibly dedicated graphics but not a must.

Preferably no more than 2kg and 13-14"

Looking to spend around the 800 mark. Cheapest i've seen the R830 for is here: https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Toshiba_Satellite_R830-182_1158028.html

    Any advice appreciated.

Web, video etc. with a fair bit of multitasking. Some light gaming but nothing major

In that case the toshiba should be fine for your needs. It's hard to find 13'3 inch laptops 2kg or under and within your budget but there are these:

http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/product/ZKB_02PC/02_NOTEBOO/20_121/productdetails/20099635/MSI_14_X460DX_228NL_i5_2410M_4GB_640GB/X460DX_228NL/default.aspx This is 50 euro above budget,14'' screen, less than 2KG and comes with a dedicated graphics card capapble of running new games at medium specs, but you probably wont need it if it's only light gaming, still would future proof it.

In fact just have a look at the range here:http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/catalog/ZKB_02PC/02_NOTEBOO/20_121/default.aspx

The xps 14z is a very nice laptop.

I'd have bought it myself but I don't like the low screen resolution, it's not too bad on a 14" though.

    Here's a code for 15% off

KGXJL1$Q3T6VLH from here. There's new ones put up the day after they expire so you don't need to rush your decision.

Think im going to go for it. Any views on whether an extra 2GB RAM is worth €50?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,846 ✭✭✭discombobulate

Just after buying it there now! €712 with codes and fatcheese! Came up as €869 instead of €899 when I added it to basket. Thanks lads

Not to ruin it for ya if you bought that ram, but ram is much cheaper to buy elsewhere and install it yourself, it's very easy to do you just slot it into the laptop after removing the bottom panel. Just for future reference. Overall though thats a good price for the laptop.

Cheers. Gave the extra RAM a miss. Would have been €70 extra. Don't think i'd be doing enough to need that

Got this delivered and happy out with it. One point for anyone buying one is that the whole unit is sealed so the laptop needs to be taken apart to upgrade RAM rather than the usual enclosure that can be opened on the bottom.
