Do Irish Ferries still do day return fares?

Wouldn't mind going over for a spin on Isle of Inishmore during her short stint on the Dublin-Holyhead route.

I clicked on special offers / promotions and it says 24 hour trip foot passenger from €42.00. Clicked on book now, and after selecting the 08:05 ex Dublin / 14:10 return for Wednesday it was showing me two single fares for €36.00 which is €72.00 return. No thanks.

I tried a few different combinations and other days in case it has to be booked a certain time in advance, and also the Rosslare-Pembroke route but I came across no €42 fares at all.

AFAIK Stena do a day return, I never travel with Irish Ferries.

They cannot be booked online, you have to ring them.

(Although I would always go stena given the choice!)

I'll drop you a PM Drimnagh Road.

I'm always amazed at how anyone could choose Stena over Irish Ferries on the Dublin to Holyhead route especially on the conventional ferries. Stena's conventional ferry resembles little more than a motorway service area IMO, give me a proper pint in a proper glass on a leather couch on Irish Ferries anyday!!

The HSS was definitely miles ahead of the Swift but now the HSS is not running, that's a moot point.

I never drink on the boat but have found Irish Ferries and Stena to be much of a muchness. Irish Ferries is, in my experience, much more expensive on board but I think that is because they charge Euro instead of Sterling.

Irish Ferries are a way more expensive when one considers the extras. such as getting from the city Center (e2.50 each way to Busarus, service is free with Stena) Stena offer free WIFI and Movies, not exactly a cinema but passes the time. I also found staff on Stena Ferries helpful.

Yeah, that whole Irish Ferries bus thing is ridiculous. Especially as there is no Euro ATM at the ferry port.

€2.50 for that distance is sheer profiteering.

Irish Ferries have a free film on the Swift, usually something to appeal to the kids.

I was surprised on the Ulysses recently to see a blackjack table with croupier. All the fruit machines everywhere are a bit over the top but a gambling table with a croupier takes it to a new level.

The Daytrip fare is still 34euro (+6euro credit card fee). They have limited space for day trip tickets on each sailing, its only ever an issue in the summer months. The 24hr day trip is 42euro (over one day and back the next).

None of these fares are available online as they are cheaper than a one way ticket and there was major abuse with that system. They can be booked through the call center or at the port. The only other restriction with the day trip tickets is there is no allowance for luggage (not strictly enforced).

There is also a 24hr day trip car fare which works out around 170euro (car and driver). It too can only be bought via the call center or ports and have a limit of how many per sailing. It too is cheaper than a lot of last minute one way fares. As a result, this fare can only be booked with a credit or debit card. Should you not use the return leg of this fare your card will be hit for an additional 200euro (or so). This ticket is un amendable over the 24hr restriction and missing your return leg means a new ticket.

Just to add, dont turn up and expect to get the quoted fares for the day trips (I was in a car)

They charged me extra due to the advertised day fare being "from".

The food onboard was poor and very, very expensive, so after that trip, I avoid them whenever I can.
