Question About Discarded Bicycle Equipment...

I hope this isn't a stupid question - but I'm curious what people think. I'm currently using the Dublin Bikes program to commute to work but I'd really like to get my own bicycle (it'd be a lot less hassle).

Anyway - I've noticed around town there are bicycle 'pieces' left over from what I assume was bicycle theft. Near me there is a bicycle frame that is chained to railing - *just* the frame is left. I've seen similar situations - sometimes with the wheels.

I've been walking past the frame for months now - and it's always there. Obviously nobody is using it.

Would you still consider it stealing if someone (like myself) helped themselves to these items?

if it has a serial number on it, you can always report the serial number to the guards and see if it was reported stolen or missing? idk.

I think Rothar recycles a lot of bike parts that end up on the streets like this.

You should be able to find something suitable with little or no work to be done in the metal skip at your local recycling centre.
