Monitor making peculiar sound when 'on' switch is pushed

    Hi all,

Picked up an old monitor in work (the boss wanted me to take even more), a Compaq 7500:

Now it's at home but doesn't turn on. Instead it made a strange noise which I could pinpoint was coming from near the entry point for the plug cable.

Just wondering if someone can advise on a possible repair? Would it be something as simple as a fuse? The monitor was being thrown out as they had recently got new hardware into the office, so I can only assume that it was still working until recently.

Many old CRT monitors make a buzzing noise when de-gaussing. If it does not work, dump it (responsibly !), people give them away for nothing these days; check freecycle/jumbletown if your boss has no more left.

It wasn't a buzzing noise though, it was more high-pitched.
