Sex Addiction

The release of Michael Fassbender's (sigh..) new flick, Shame got me thinking about sex addiction, is it the biggest load of bull cited by wayward spouses etc. so that they don't have to take responsibility for their actions or do people think its a genuine addiction like drugs etc.

Is "sex addiction" a genuine addiction? 11 votes

Sex addiction is a new disease that creates work for charlatans.

    What a load of bollocks.

These celebrities saying that they are addicted to sex is a load of bull, Tiger Woods and Michael Douglas were having sex with attractive women, we'd all do that if we had the chance...

Richard Gere on the other hand...

It's a genuine enough condition, not so much a disease I think. A lot of people will use it because they just want to cheat, but for some people it is a compulsion. They can't turn it down, and will go to weird lengths to get off.

An orgasm is a high after all, it's the absolute perfect moment that no drugs can give.

It could be an addiction yes. People get off on instant gratification of all kinds, you can be lost in the moment for a brief moment and that's the relief they are looking for when using sex and drugs and alcohol in this way. Briefly takes your mind off other things.

Yes it is, anything that is deemed as pleasurable and releases endorphins / adrenaline can become an addiction.
