who is your number one inside fighter......which fighter has the rare quality of being excellent on the inside, remaining calm and accurate....

a list of my top 5 are:

    1. Chavez
    2. Duran
    3. Tyson
    4. James Toney
    5. Henry Armstrong

heavyweights that deserve a mention are Bowe and Holyfield

Don't want to sound pedantic as it is your 'favourite' not 'the best', but IMO Tyson was a poor inside fighter. He preferred launching his missiles from outside or even mid-distance. Once inside he seemed to hold and wait til the ref parted them.

tyson definitely was a great inside fighter....look at his fights against frazier, mathis etc.......probably tyson's best combo was a short right body shot and then a short right uppercut.....he had tremendous movement and awareness on the inside.....probably one of the greatest inside fighters of the heavyweights !.....tyson's main objective was to roll under the jab and get on the inside where he had the advantage with his short arms and height and also his tremendously short and powerful punches

if you only watched tyson's latter fights you would be correct in saying he wasn't great on the inside....but pre buster douglas he was awesome...

Technically Mayweather is inside so i'll say him!!

i know what Megadodge is saying, he used to start his attack from out of range and finish in close, very little infighting done though, usually just a lad knocked out or him clinching.

Tyson when he wanted to was deadly inside. Thing is, a lot of the time he was content to do little, maybe get a breatehre etc. But, he could launch deadly assaults in close. So, on form I would rate him very good on the inside.

Agree. Good observation. Tyson was often lazy inside, especially as the rounds progressed.
