    Hi,
Im looking to buy a new laptop and came across this one, looking for peoples opinion on it.

    http://www8.hp.com/ie/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=5145680

It will just be used for college, some general web browsing, facebook, downloading movies etc. Nothing overly taxing but I need a decent battery.

What do you think of that one?

It should be perfect in terms of performance, battery will only be average though as it's a 6-cell (3-4hours tops), but other than that it's good.

Look around on sites like saveonlaptops and komplett, look for other laptops with pretty much the exact same spec's as that, you should find others for 500 or less.

I was looking at that laptop myself, but I mostly wanted it because I think it looks cool. I also thought the battery would be better, it kinda sucks.

Maybe you can get an upgrade battery from ebay?

The 6-8 hours is probably with the laptop on, nothing doing anything. The 3- hours I said is with basic applications running, like word and a browser. Look up some real reviews of the laptop, just make sure it's the same model, older versions of it had old processors which used more power.

That's a terrible reason to spend close to 700 euro in fairness.

    I will thanks,

It has a HD screen but would the i3 processor be good enough for watching HD movies on?

Honestly I know thats a stupid reason but every time a look at another laptop to consider it I just think its ugly. But if it wasn't a decent laptop I wouldn't get it.

What are HP like on quality? Do they tend to break easily?

Iv always had a Vaio and they seemed very low quality to me as they just keep breaking.

90% of processors these days can do HD movies. Processors have gone beyond the needs of the average person, a 2nd gen i3 would last you a solid 3 years for everyday tasks, probably longer.

Integrated Intel graphics are fine for HD.

I don't know about Hp personally, but really you can't generalize with brands. Even the worst laptop brands in terms of build quality put out some laptops that have a great build, and brands like Vaio which is normally known for excellent builds can break down, such as in your case.

The best thing to do is to look up reviews of laptops online, before you buy. Plenty of written reviews as well as ones on youtube can be found to look at.

If your still considering buying it I got one today.

So far its all going good. I have been using it the past 4 hours now on battery and it says there is 4 hours and 3 minutes remaining right now at 52% so to me the battery seems really good.
Thats with the screen at about 75% and just doing normal stuff like email, microsoft word, powerpoint excel and installing microsoft enterprise and a few other programs. I watched an episode of Mrs Browns boys and downloaded two movies. So the battery has lasted a good while considering a done a fair bit on it.

Its seems to be very well built, its all sold and there is no flimsy parts or anything that feels cheap. Most of the laptop is covered in metal which looks good.

Its very fast for now (but all new laptops do be). I thought the fingerprint reader was going to be just a novelty feature but its actually really good, it makes things much easier.

In the reviews I read there were some complaints about the mouse pad saying that if you rested your tumb or another finger on the mouse buttons while using it then it would jump around. I have had no such problem and I think that it was only with US models as their ones have the buttons built into the mouse pad.

The screen is of course smaller than the average laptop, but Im sure you knew that as the screen is 14". I watched part of a HD movie on it just to see what its like and the screen was perfect for it. The speakers were also very good, they were loud and clear.

Its also quite thinn and light weight.

I think I covered everything that I could think of, if you have any questions ask me :)
