Can I claim grant from 2009?

When I first started my 3rd level course in 2009, my mam paid for my college fees with money she had been saving for me at a total of 1500. At the time I was not aware of the grants scheme, and paid the money without pursuing the grant until the following year.

Now that I am in my 3rd year and aware that I could have been entitled to the grant in 2009, can I claim a refund of my registration fees?

I had a bit of a look around and couldn't find any information about it.

I'm assuming you want the fees you paid back in 2009 to be reimbursed? Is the 1500 euro a yearly thing, or does it cover the duration of your study?

Your best bet is to ring your grant office and find out. That said, I would be very surprised if they gave you money for it, considering they're cutting the grant and changing eligibility requirements as is. You didn't apply for the grant at the time and you managed to afford the fees and the general living costs for the year, so why should they reimburse you for that?

I don't think you can backclaim

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
