Lost my oil filler cap

    Stupid situation and question.....

Popped the bonnet to charge a friends battery. And surprise surprise the oil cap is gone, either I didn't snap it back in place properly a couple of weeks ago or I completely forgot to put it back on.

Its a mark 4 golf, where in Dublin can I get one quickly and as cheap as possible? I'm assuming there are generic ones or VW generic ones? Rather than being specific for a MK4 golf.

I'd start off by trying your local vw dealer.

Halfords should have one. They have a selection of spurios brands to fit different cars.

Other than that, you're looking at a main dealer. I paid €16 recently for an expansion bottle cap so I'd reckon a oil filler cap is around the same money.

    That was quick, thanks :)

Yeah I was wondering if it was the kind of thing you could get in a motor factors shop rather than having to go to a dealer. I'll give a ring tomorrow.

Do you know how much a dealer will charge for it, or are you just assuming that it will be silly money?

@OP - forget about Halfords or the like - you want an original one that fits properly and seals against the rocker cover.

halfords do them in the UK alright, but as above, go to a scrappie.

If you go for a main dealar try Seat or Skoda as the cap is the same for alot of engines across VAG.

Otherwise in a scrapyard you could look in Ibizas, Octavia's, Passats's etc as well as Golfs if you're having trouble finding one.
