    I know anorak alert!

Anyone else ever think how many colours they have to choose from? And can they ever use two colours a year apart?

Brownish is sooo last year!! Apparently green is all the rage this year.

as a kid I used to know what colours meant what years :o

Think its on a quite specific rotation, 5 colours or so. There will be someone on here who has 8+ years of discs in the car still, almost certainly.

I think Motor Tax Online has slightly screwed up the colourings as they change the blank stock at a certain time meaning that 3 month discs expiring the same year will get the colour of 12 months expiring the next year.

I've wondered about the use of different colours, the type face changes subtly as well.

I always thought that they used different colours so a passing Garda will know a disc is OOD at a glance?

Thay is also my understanding. Anything not the current or previous years colour and the Garda would take a closer look.

May also have been to make forgeries a little more difficult.

I have have them from 96 to date

1996 - white text on red, rest of disc blue/light blue
1997 - white text on green, rest of disc brown/light green
    etc.

The latest disc I have which expries on 12-12 is mainly yellow whereas I see the disc expiring 12-12 in the OP is mainly green. I presume it's because I taxed the car in december before it expired and got the old colour scheme.

I never really thought about the order the colours went through, must have a look through the stack of them on my windscreen.
They can come up well under uv

I have discs going back to 1986, they used to be colour specific to the year, but not anymore.

Ill take a pic if i can root them out.
