Mole Removal Scar

I had two small facial moles removed during the summer. I was told by my GP that they would leave no scarring and by the consultant that there would be very little scarring.
However the scars are almost as bad as the moles (hopefully not worse, otherwide I made a HUGE mistake haha). They are around .5 cm wide. I am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and have any tips, anywhere I can go for this or any cream I can use? I would appreciate this as they really are effecting my self confidence.
    Thanks!

(Sorry if this is in wrong forum, I saw a relatively similar one to this from years ago in this forum so decided to put it in here!)

If I were you Id go back and speak to the consultant about this. I can tell you from experience of a couple of different surgeries that it takes a long time for scarring to go invisible, at least 6 months to a year on one of mine, and a few years on the other one (which never really went invisible but went white eventually).

SO yeah, go back and talk to the consultant.

    Hi,

I had several moles removed a few years ago. Initially the scarring looked quite bad but after about 6 months there was a huge difference. The scars went from a dark reddish colour to pale pink and now they are barely visible. I sometimes have trouble locating them when I'm showing someone I had them removed. :P

I also had my appendix out a few years ago and as it had ruptured my scar was much bigger than the usual but it too has shrunken and faded and is really not that noticeable.

I found Bio Oil good for my scars, even just massaging them regularly can help them heal better. People will probably recommend vitamin E too but my dermatologist has said this is useless for scarring, it's all just marketing.

Thanks. I will probably do that. I am just afraid I have maybe left it too long. I had a bigger mole removed from my back, which was what I went in for really, and it has gone white and practically invisible despite being much bigger. Thanks

Yes its 6 months now and they are a dark reddish, so your story definitely makes me feel better. I have vitamen E but have been meaning to get bio oils for a while.
Just out of interest how raised were your scars?
    Many thanks!

One scar on my shoulder was raised about 0.25cm but now it is flat. I had another similar one on my side that is also now flat.

My appendix scar was raised only at one end where it had been stapled and was probably raised 0.5cm. This part of the scar took the longest to heal but it got there eventually.

Try massaging the scars even just with some moisturiser if you have it and always put SPF on them when you are going outdoors, even if you don't think it is sunny. UV rays can be very damaging to new skin.

Yes I have always tried masaging it, but always with vit e, i will try other things from now on, thanks.
It is also a relief to hear that your scars were raised and are no longer raised, I was kind of afraid that the fact mine were raised meant they always will be, maybe they will, but maybe they wont now! Thanks

My husband has scars from mole removals that were done about a year ago.

I recommend massaging in cocoa butter during the day (as it's quite greasy, and will take longer to sink into the skin), and then Bio Oil at night which is lighter. Take Vit E tablets as well which will take care of the skin from the inside.

I have to say that one of the scars is still dark red in colour, but will fade in time I expect.

    Hi OP

I had a mole removed from my cheek bone a few years back, and had one removed from my arm a few years ago, and years and years ago from my neck and head. Yup, bad skin eh!?!. I also have plenty of pock marks on my chest, some on my face, and my shoulders from acne years back. I am in my 30s, and couldn't care less now. It did worry me years ago though...
Every scar has a story! They don't bother me anymore....

Yeah, all depends on how deep they were and the thickness of the skin in the area etc... The back has very thick skin compared to the face, plus the back skin takes less everyday damage due to wind and UV etc...

Definitely speak to the surgeon, it could just be the difference in the skin and depth of mole etc... But no point in having worries, best to get your mind put at ease.

    Hi OP

Vitamin E is the best thing I have ever used for scars. I have a large 5 inch scar which remained pink for over 10 years, until I started using vitamin e.

If you buy the capsules, cut the top of one and rub in, I did this twice a day and within a few weeks my scar faded.
I had tried numerous other creams over the years and nothing worked except for the vitamin e.

    Good luck

Op, you should go back and talk to your GP or dermatolgist. I got 3 small moles removed by laser because one kept bleedying after having a shave. I contacted this place and within 4days, i had an appointment, i was examined and had them removed at the same time on the advice of the Dr. I don't expect scaring but i will try bio oil and vitiam e advice if does once they clear up.

They also send them off for toxotology reports, testing which is all included in the price. I have to go back in 2 months for the results and a checkup. I walked into the place not expecting to get them removed just examined but walked out white faced after. Never bothered me to be honest.

Give the Bio oild and Vitiam E a go.
