Hi, not sure if this is the right place. But was looking at a car recently which was on sale because the owner had moved to Australia and the father was selling it for the owner. Would there be any complication in terms of the owner registation of the car being changed to my name, seeing as the official owner is not in the country?

Does the address on the Registration Cert match the address where you viewed the car ?
If so, then there shouldn't be a problem. The owner's Father could always sign his son's name while you are distracted by your new purchase.....if it hasn't been signed already.

Thanks for the reply, that sounds simple enough. I was just curious to the implications of the father signing for the son. What would happen for example if the son had come home from Australia and hadn't wished for the father to sell the car?

That would be between him and the father. If the father has the VLC and signs his sons name thats his business, not yours.

It's perfectly legal for the father to sign and "pp" the sons name.
