    Hi,

I need to adjust the mileage on the clock of my 2006 BMW 520.

Please let me know if you can do this or know a man who can?

    Thanks

This sounds dodgy tbh, but I'll move it to Motors for the moment in case there's a ligitimate reason for asking this.

    Moved from Aardvark

Search donedeal for mileage correction, should find something on that so you can do it handy enough.

BMW store the correct mileage on the key also afaik.

You should have let him take a running jump rather than impart useful information!

I can think of no good reason why a Boards veteran of 1 post should sign up to ask advice on changing the clock on a 5yr old 520!

decreasing mileage won't do the service

    Maybe he bought new clocks.

lets hope so, then the fact that the mileage is stored in a rake load of other places on the car wont bother him , and that if somebody brought the car to a bmw garage afterwards theyd be able to check that the cars actual mileage matches the clocks

And it's been moved from Aardvark, which was set up to catch spam and spam-bots.
If the OP (with his 1st post) can find boards but can't find the Motors section perhaps he shouldn't be let behind the wheel of any car, regardless of indicated mileage.:D

Let him off to get it changed.hes the one that will get cought as soon as some one plugs onto it and sees different mileage in the key and ecu then on the clocks.id say the guys charging 100quid to do it hope that people don't relies it's only chaging the mileage on the clocks

Should the OP not read " i've imported a 520d from England with 150,000 miles on it and want to put it on donedeal as 60k motorway miles"?

I cannot think of one valid reason to do this, are there any?

  • Registered Users Posts: 282 ✭✭voojeq

yes there is a possibility that his rev counter died along with the speedo and he has to replace the whole thing, this would explain why OP needs to adjust the milage on the clock to match the engine

surely the clocks dont store anything on a bmw, ecu stores the milage also key fob will store mileage service history etc

Not correct, The mileage is stored centrally but also in many many other areas across the vehicle. exchanged parts have to be updated to match the existing mileage.

Which is why its quite tough to 'clock' one of these vehicles if someone has the equipment to plug it in you'll get found out quite quickly. My eagle eyes are everywhere

Nothing illegal about mileage correction. Don't see the big deal.
