M50 toll question

It was unclear from both the small sign on the M50 toll area, and their website (well I couldn't find any clear answer) if you have to pay only once for a 24 hour period or per actual instance through the toll area when you travel on the M50.

I travelled both N bound and S bound multiple times in one day in an car unregistered on their system.

I have no idea how much to pay. I also can't get through to a person to answer my question on the helpline.

Anyone know the answer to this question (before 8pm tonight of course)?

Every time you travel through the toll bridge!

Edit: Think if you put the reg into the website it might tell you the amount you need to pay.
    Not sure ive a easypass

You pay for each trip not each day. If you go through seven times then you pay the toll x 7

Works the very same as if there was a barrier there, only you pay after.

Doesn't matter if the car wasn't registered on their system. You only register if looking for a discount on the tolls. You do this only if you're a frequent user and don't want to spend a fortune on this.

If you're driving relatively rare through the tolls then there's no point in registering, also there is always an alternative route to m50 so it's not a necessity.

You are going to get a letter from eFlow with amount to pay. They do this by checking car owners database so whoever is down as owner he will get the bill.

You can pay this on their webiste or by going to any Centra or Spar with Payzone logo. Barcode on the letter has to be scanned and monies paid.

If you wait for the letter, it will be €6 for each trip and not €3 if you pay by 8pm today.

You wont be able to find out online how many times you went through and how much is due, you might be able to if you ring up eflow - but generally they just ask you for your reg and how many trips you want to pay for.

Much of this is not factually correct and/or is bad advice

    1. If you're driving fairly rarely through you're still better off registering for a video account as there is no monthly fee and you won't get any penalties.

    2. If you wait for the letter you will get charged at least EUR6 per trip, a silly approach.

OP: Best thing to do is go on the website and pay for as many as you think you did; maybe add 1 or 2 on for good order (e.g. if you think you did 5 pay for 6). This would be significantly cheaper than waiting for the penalty letter.

    Hi all,

(I've sent a PM to charlie_says to get more info)

If a customer passes through the M50 toll several times, a payment must be made for each journey. 1 payment does not cover one day nor does it cover a return journey (i.e. Northbound then Southbound). Payment before 8pm the day after the journey(s) avoids late payment penalties.

An eFlow Video Registered account is the best option for the infrequent user.

For example: Person only using the M50 twice a year heading to the airport.

The advantages of the Video Registered Account are:
    • Its free! (No setup/monthly/annual fees - If a customer does not use the M50, it costs nothing)
    • 50c discount on M50 tolls
    • eFlow Rewards Card with great offers
    • No late payment penalties
    • No payment deadlines
    • Automatic payments, no need for the customer to make the payments manually
    • Up to 6 cars on a private account
    • On line access to a/c
    • Upgrade from Video a/c to Tag a/c possible (Tags cover all tolls in Ireland)
    • No minimum contract period
Signup on line at www.eflow.ie or give us a call at lo-call 1890-50-10-50 and check out eFlows forum http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1496

    Hope this helps,

    John

    Hi John,
Since I use the M50 very infrequently 2 or 3 times a year I decided to take your advice and set up An eFlow Video Registered account
But as part of the registration process I am asked to choose my pre-paid top up amount and the HELP answer on this is, Your account will be automatically topped up by the selected amount when it reaches the minimum account balance of €12.

My query is do I have to have a balance of €12 in my account all the time?
One of the advantages stated in your reasons for this account is,Its free! (No setup/monthly/annual fees - If a customer does not use the M50, it costs nothing)

So I am wondering if I am signing up to the right account. I do not mind giving my credit card details and it being debited when I use the Toll , but not to have money taken out beforehand.

    Grace

Choose the Post-Paid account and they will do a DD on the credit card monthly for any usage.

Yeah my card is billed once a month and I get a statement before hand. I was forever getting mixed up with trips as I'd used it so much. Eventually got a load of fines totaling about 400 euro. Rang them up and they suggested the Video Account and waived the fines. Result !! No more hassle or worry :)

    Hi Grace,

The €12 balance is about the pre paid account. With eFlow there are 2 different payment options, pre paid and post paid.

eFlow pre paid accounts work off credit similar to mobile phone credit. Once you sign up for a pre paid account we take an automatic top up €40 this moneys is a credit which goes towards your tolls. It is set to top automatically by the amount you select(between €30 to €250 per top up.) whenever the credit goes below €12.

With the post paid system we keep track of all the trips done in one month and take payment then the following month. So if you have 4 trips in October we would take that payment in November.

When signing up online, its in section 6 of the form where you specify if you want pre paid or post paid.

All of the benefits listed above by John apply to both pre paid and post paid accounts.

    Hope that helps,
    Ciaran.
