If you don't prove it, me might think you're eggsaggerating.

About 1 in a 1000 eggs have two yolks. But once you find 1 in a box you are a lot more likely to find another. Eggs in a box are normally from the one flock of hens. Flocks are normally the same age. Young hens (pullets) can lay double-yolkers (chances of a double yolk from a young hen is nearer to 1 in 50), which are bigger in size. Bigger eggs are then boxed together.

The eggs came from young layers.

As the layers mature the eggs will all be single yoke.

I've had the same thing happen to me, OP.

Do you also get your eggs from Sellafield Farms?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,923 ✭✭✭cloptrop

if it was possible id seperate the egg yolks and keep one till the next day ,i only use the yolk for dipping , having to is being a bit extravagant for my likings , especially in this day and age, so if anyone has a method of saving the second yolk for a day im all ears ,
theres families out there that get one yolk between them nowadays , i wouldnt feel right having two

You seem to know your eggs.

I knew it was very rare (we have hens at home) but I never understood why you'd always see them together. This explains it. I'm so satisfied right now, I actually just looked satisfactorily into thin air for a wee silent minute, after I read your answer:)

It would only be impressive if you got 24 doublers with different coloured chicks in each one.
