That would be commercially sensitive information.

How much money is in your bank account?

Meh only up to a point. We generally have rough ideas what some other retail industries margins are, why are car dealers so protective of this information? Especially given the fact they have been subsidised by the government in recent years.

Not a lot anymore. About €2,000 grand I'd imagine on a new car. It was upwards of €6,000 a few years back.

I'm not sure if a trade in is factored into that though.

As someone who has worked in the trade for nearly 8 years on and off, I would argue that the trade has been subsidised by the Government, I certainly haven't seen any of that reflected in my wages. Anyhow, different argument for a different day.

To give you a rough idea, a dealer will make anywhere between 0 and 5,000e on a car sale.

It depends on the manufacturer of the car they're selling. Some brands have as low as 4% margin, some have anything up to 15%. Why are you asking the question?

Between 5% and 10% on average I reckon on the sale of a new car , no trade in involved

I know of a secondhand car dealer that was making 5-6k on imported cars from the UK a few years ago never mind new car purchases.

I recon it would depend on the % cost of the purchase price. Also factoring in the batches of cars that dealers order (common trim levels, colours etc) as well if there was a promotion being offered by the dealer ship (flogging existing manufactured older models prior to the release of newer ones).
