I applied for a licence just before christmas myself and was told by the gardai it would probably be back in a week or ten days too seeing as its a quite time of year for licences. but they do have a maximum time of three months alright if busy or there is a problem

I substituted my lisance in november and got it back Friday but I was also getting concerned about the long wait so rang my local station and also Garda hq to find out where on the system the application was. Both were very helpful. I'm just putting the delay down to the whole Christmas break

You can only substitute one rifle for another if they are in the same class ie a.17 for .22 otherwise the gardai will ask you for another 80 euro for a fresh application .

its a .243 thats going to a lad thats got a licence for a 6.5 which he has up for sale/sold so in that case it should be a straight substitution.

unless he hasn't been able to sell the 6.5 and has had to make a fresh application for the .243

its actually changed recently i put a substitution through as i traded in my .22lr for a 12g pump action shotty. cost me nothing as they were both non-restricted!! you only have to pay now if u change from non- restricted to restricted licence or vise versa
