Hard to answer your question without knowing the power rating of your amp or details about the existing speakers.

And by 'improve', do you mean increase, or tighten?

A centre speaker (unless it is quite large) won't improve bass, that's what the subwoofer is designed to do.

I don't run a sub or a centre speaker. Mismatched centre speakers can create odd nodes in a room, again depending on sizes and placement. "Ideally" the front L + R and the centre should be the same speaker oriented in the same direction, and at the same heights. Since this is not practical or aesthetically pleasing in most environments (you don't see the speakers in the cinema) manufacturers have oriented the centre speaker flat.

Being close to walls and corners will increase bass, but you risk boominess. This is cheap and easy though, so it is where I would start.

Thereafter, add a subwoofer and have a play with it's location. Usually the best place is where it seems loudest from your normal seated position. Then turn it down so it doesn't draw attention to itself. I'd suggest trying Adverts for a second hand active (i.e. powered) sub.
