I bought the mini myself there about a week ago. Snappy little phone with 1ghz processor, 512mb ram and 3' screen. My partner is looking at one now but we have also noticed the Sony ericcson 'Live' which has a similar 1ghz processor, 512mb ram but with a 3.2" screen. Both are nice little phones with the 'Live' coming with dedicated walkman button.

    Which would you go for?

    Anyone have the 'Live'?

    Thanks

Depends on what you want.If you are big into music obviously the walkman but if its info its the mini

Well they are basically the same hardware but the live has the 3.2" screen and front facing camera which is nice. The live does not use the bravio screen technology though so it wont be as sharp as the mini. Then again with a 3.2" screen would you really notice any differance?

SE Mini is a far far better phone.

Only good points about the Live is that it is not as thick and chubby and feels better in your hand plus it has a front facing camera.

Apart from that though, the Mini walks on the Live. The Screen is in a different league for a start (especially in daylight conditions) and has a hot-swappable memory card. For me these aspects make the phones incomparable.

If it just wasn't so damn chubby and short, I'd own one myself.

I didn't think any network was carrying both phones? Does network not matter to you? Or are are you buying it sim free somewhere?

Network does matter:). My partner bought the Sony ericsson live with walkman today. The live screen does not have the Bravia technology where as the Mini does. Putting the phones side by side there seems to be absolutely no differance in screen quality as far as we both can see. I wish I had bought the Live as it's slightly bigger screen and front facing cam would have made the package perfect for me. I just didnt notice the Live when I was buying my mini:(

Bravia only kicks in when doing such things as viewing your photo album. Besides, It always struck me as a marketing gimmick more than anything else.

I dont notice any differance between my mini and my partners Live. I really looked at them on various levels and I cant see any differance. Then again on small 3" and 3.2" screens this bravia thing would probably not even be noticed.

Try them both outside and you'll see that the Mini is easier screen to read in daylight. I've handled both and think the screen on the Mini is far superior even if not just for the fact that it's not as prone to finger print marks and the like as the Live certainly was for me when I used it.

I do like the Live though and one thing about it is that it feels better in the hand than the chubby little Mini.

If you get a chance - test Wifi tethering on it and see if they are both the same as there are reports that the Live is not as fast when used as a hotspot as the Mini. Seeing as that's something that is fast becoming a function people will now choose one phone over another on, would be interesting to know how they compare.

Which network is doing both the live and mini?

@Mondeo: Any problems with your Mini? I've read some threads online about the phone acting up so much that it needs to be sent to a SonyEricsson Service Centre for flashing. Menu becoming inaccessible, overheating, and vibrating issues. Those worries aside, I'm thinking about buying the Xperia Mini. It looks like good value for money (€170 @ SimplyElectronics): 1Ghz, 512MB, LED LCD, small dimensions, 720p video, ICS (March/April). How's the battery life?

As far as I know, O2 are the only Irish network selling the Xperia Mini, and they don't sell the Live, so Mondeo must've bought one or the other SIM-free somewhere.

So far my mini is fine, it is a chubby little thing to hold. I've only had the phone 10 days so I'm still getting use to it. I had an iPhone 3GS before hand so this dinky little thing gets buried in my pocket and I forget it's even in there.
No bugs to report yet but mine came preinstalled with latest firmware.
The wifi antenna is not as sensitive as my 3GS which is annoying because some places where I normally get free wifi is not agreeing with my mini:(
    Battery life is decent!

I got my mini on 02 and my partner got her live on meteor :)
