I've just sold my car but I'm pretty sure the details given on the change of ownership form by the new owners are fake. I still haven't posted it to Shannon yet. Is there anything I should do in this situation?

What makes you think their fake?

Just post it away, if there's a problem then the cert will come back to you. At that point you can explain to the licencing people what happened, they'll make a note, and that'll be the end of it. At least that's what I did when it happened to me.

Yeah its not really up to you to make sure details are correct. If im right it says on the bottom of change of ownerships " Details given are true and accurate" or something to that effect?

Sold a car before like this.
buyer couldnt even spell his address properly but tbh i didnt care, the money was in my hand and i was in a very public place.

garda dropped up to me a few days later asking about the car, told him the story and showed him a photocopy of the filled in VLC and that was the end of it.

Dont know what they used the car for?
and it was a 7k hot hatch, not just a couple of euros either?

It was a very low value transaction (of the order of hundreds of euros), the lad who was buying it said he fixes up cars, puts them through the NCT and sells them on, but let's just say the name and address on the cert seems very fake. Will send it on to Shannon and see what happens.

Send it on. my mother sold her car before to a guy and she gave him the log book. Why I don't k now but end result guards called to the door asking was the registered owner there and they asked my mother had she been in cork at all. She said no told them she has sold the car to this guy and ther guards told her it had been used in an armed robbery in cork  but of course it was still registered to her.

My rule is, I insist on the purchaser producing his/her driving licence.

He could have given false details in order to carry out numerous different frauds. Its not your concern really. Keep a copy of the filled out cert anyway in case anyone comes asking questons.

Seeing as its a low value car, he could be intending to drive it without tax or insurance. There are a few people who do this and just walk away from the car if they get into any bother, giving a false name too.

    It would appear so.
