Lads need a bit of help with a changeover of car.

Im usually on the ball but this is a strange one.

Did a deal on my own car--Cash plus a trade of another smaller car just to get me over a few days.

Anyhow I bought the car I wanted today and put an ad on adverts to sell the one I took as a part exchange.

Got an offer and the buyer wants to collect tomorrow.

Should I wait until I get the paperwork in my own name before selling the car on or would I be ok doing the deal tomorrow and sorting the paperwork when I receive it and just back dating it to tomorrows date--Im just concerned that as I havent got the paperwork yet Id be liable for fines etc while waiting.

    Help muchly appreciated.

You and the new owner have to fill out and sign the Change of Ownership section on the back of the car's VLC. If you hand over the car to the new owner they could be driving up and down the M50 all day and the toll bills will go to you. I'd wait until you receive the new VLC before concluding the deal.

Also if I was buying a car I would certainly not hand over any money without seeing and signing the Change of Ownership form.
