Gear Shift Indicator

    Folks,

    I’m currently driving a 2010 Golf.
The gearshift indicator is always requesting a higher gear to maximize efficiency
However it seems bit too unrealistic. Even just under 2K rev's it's looking to change up.
Does anybody ever follow this, I feel like it would be labouring the engine if I used it as gospel.

    J

The wife has a Toyota with the shift light too. I agree its unrealistic. If I turn to the L/100kms display and watch that, I can easily get a lower average L/100kms using the gears my way then following the shift display.

I try to use it on a flat stretch of road. I will drive the way i normally do and see how my MPG pans out.
It would be interesting to see how other car manufactures have there indicators set up.

Half the time on her car(due to the small engine) the display will tell you to change up, and when you do, instantly tell you to change down again:rolleyes:

I've cruised in me own yoke experimentally at 800 RPM, and it didn't seem to mind a bit.

I'd say the DMF was working over-time though - to keep things regulated.
