Categories of Write-Off

    Apparently salvaged or written-off cars are categorised according to how bad the damage is. Cartell lists the different categories:

    Does anyone know where these come from, or if they've just taken the UK categories; in which case does anyone know if these categories actually mean anything in Ireland. The UK Categories come from The Code of Practice for the Disposal of Motor Vehicle Salvage issued by the Association of British Insurers (“the ABI Code of Practice”) but I can't find anything related to official classifications in the ROI...
    If they're not official, presumably a seller can advertise a category C as category D without any legal implications...?
