i am applying for an irish passport. i was born in england to an irish born and english born parents. i have had an english passport but it is out of date, want to apply for an irish one now. however, when oi was around 15, i had a passport for a school trip, but i cannot for the life of me remember if it was english or irish one, my mother doesn't know either. when i am filling in irish passport form, it asks if i ever held an irish one, i don't know! if i rang the passport office, would they know?

Apply for your passport in the form of your name that you currently use, i.e. English or Irish.

As you have lost your most recent Irish passport you will have to supply documents to prove both your name and address. To avoid any problems in relation to your name to appear on your passport you should ensure that these documents are at least 2 years old and are from 2 totally different sources. By doing this you are both proving your name & address and supplying proof of usage of your name.

Don't forget your will also need to submit photo ID and be sure that your fill out section 6 on the form and have the Garda who witnesses your form both sign it and stamp it (along with your own signature).

I'm thinking that it might be best if you didn't mention your old UK (not english, please... for the Welsh & Scots) passport when talking to the Irish passport office. It might complicate things.

Are you applying for the passport whilst in the UK? If so, you need to fill in this form

I think if would be best not to mention you previously had a passport if you don't know for sure.
