disc drive not working?

    hey, basically last night after about 4 months of not touching my playstation 3 i turn it on to see if it still worked and it did, even COD world at war started up fine.
    So today i decided to buy skyrim and finally updated the system to 4.00 but now the disc drive won't run any games, even COD world at war.
    The hard drive which is custom works fine everything that is on it works fine as well.
    I'm just wondering is it the disc drive itself or the update that has caused all these problems and any help would be much appreicated
