I have a Rover 25 with 14" wheels on them but the spare is 15" is that a NCT fail?

Well it's not much use to you I'd you get a puncture!

It would be an NCT fail but the rules on spares are only that they have to be up to scratch if there is one. It's not mandatory to have one though so just pull it out before the test and go without one.

Suggest you find a decent 14" one though before you're left stuck somewhere!

Is it not the wheel+tyre profile that's most important though? As long as they have the same circumference so as to be level (and - most importantly - not throw the speedo) ?

Not ideal, obviously, but the overall circumference would seem to be the most important issue if you got a puncture and needed to get home safely (as per the horrendous space saver yokes)

Mine passed and I've 17' on it and a 16' spare, but I think the external diameter is about the same as the tyres are thinner on the 17', the reason I have a 16 spare too is because Im not willing to pay hundreds for an momo alloy that will hardly see daylight.

The reason I say they are the same size also is because the 16 fits snug into the boot compartment as does the 17.. Probably not the best way to judge it but that's my excuse if they had asked!

As long as its a wheel where the tyre is ok and the wheel isn't damaged, you'll be fine.

Spare wheel is not an NCT test item.

What car is the 15" wheel off?
